1.1 Seminar Measuring the Success of Cultural Diversity Projects, 18 - 24 July 2005, Leicester, UK

Youth leaders who have carried out a Diversity project in the past will be invited to tell the story of it, and then through the sharing of best practise it is hoped to measure its success.

Target group: Youth leaders, Youth workers from all YOUTH programme countries, pre-accession countries, all Mediterranean partner countries (Euro-Med), all Commonwealth of Independant States (CIS), all South East Europe.

The event is being organised by SALTO Cultural Diversity as part of the UK Presidency of the EU. It will explore different approaches to measuring the success of 'cultural diversity projects' within non-formal learning environments. The aim of this event is to provide 4 days of personal reflections, workshops and discussions which seek to provide an insight into the different methods of creating and leading successful projects (including critical reflection, both the do's and don't's of projects). The programme will use storytelling , theatre, photography, puppets, video and other creative tools in order for the 'success' stories to be shared among the participants through an a creative, inspirational and innovative programme of activities and presentations. We hope that the final report created will be of use in going some way towards describing 'what makes a successful cultural diversity project'.

1.2 All(B)right Training Course, 19 - 25 September 2005, Hamburg, Germany

A learning opportunity for youth workers to address discrimination through Human Rights Education, offered by the German YOUTH NA, Jugend fur Europa.

Target group: Youth workers actively involved in activities for and with young people, with knowledge about and experience in the YOUTH Programme, (interested to be) working in the field of anti-discrimination/anti-racism and/or Human Rights Education from all YOUTH programme countries, all Mediterranean partner countries (Euro-Med), all Commonwealth of Independant States (CIS), all South East Europe.

The All(B)right concept offers a wide range of learning opportunities for youth workers to address discrimination in European youth work.

All(B)right consists of three complemantary phases:

A five day international training course in Hamburg. Participants will gain knowledge of Human Rights Education with a focus on origins, consequences, and spread of discrimination.
Support to develop projects addressing anti-discrimination within the YOUTH Programme. Participants should be able to develop activities by using tools of Human Rights Education.
An evaluation seminar in 2006, aiming at the evaluation of the projects, the developement of relevant competencies, and the examination of opportunities for further co-operation. Exact date and place of that seminar are unknown at this stage.
Aims:

to develop youth workers' competencies in addressing discrimination through Human Rights Education
to raise awareness about different forms of discrimination
to exchange knowledge in the different fields of discrimination
to provide participants with resources (tools & methods)
to explore concepts of Human Rights Education with young people
to familiarise participants with the approaches of COMPASS, a manual on Human Rights Education from the Council of Europe
Costs: There is no fee to be paid by the participants, but the transport costs which will be covered by the organizers.

2.1 Training Course on Intercultural Conflict Management. Clash of Cultures Versus Common European Value, 28 August - 8 September 2005, Estonia

The training will provide the participants with tools for intercultural learning and conflict management and put them into model conflict situations so that they will become aware of the importance of intercultural dialogue and understanding.

Costs: Board and lodging are fully covered by the programme. 70% of the travel expences will be reimbursed, provided that the cheapest means of travel is used (2nd/economy class, APEX, etc.).

2.2 9th STOP AIDS International Summer School "Pass It Smart", 25 - 31 July 2005, Mt. Kopaonik, Serbia and Montenegro

Training course for young people from various countries who are, within their range of work, dedicated to the reproductive health and HIV/AIDS problems.

Target group: Trainers, Young people, Youth leaders, Youth workers - representatives of nongovernmental and other organizations with basic knowledge regarding reproductive health, including the knowledge regarding HIV/AIDS. It is desirable for the participants to be youth leaders with ambitions and possibilities to get the program of peer education started in their own settings, and to improve the existing program by introducing new facts and methods into it. Besides peer education the program covers managerial (organizational) aspects, as well as advocacy and lobbying with regard to the reproductive health and rights. The organisers expect the participation of youth leaders with an ambition to change and improve the setting they come from, to exchange experiences with people outside their own countries and who are already engaged in the field of reproductive health. The School is not designed in the direction of creating new peer educators, nor for improving those ones already working in peer education, but for the representatives of the organizations.

Details: Lodging in Belgrade first day. Mt. Kopaonik where the event will be happening (for 7 days). After school, return to Belgrade where the closing of the school will be held.

2.3 Training for Young Environmental Leaders from Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe, 5 September - 1. October 2005, Hungary & Italy

The Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC) has teamed up with Italian NGO L'Umana Dimora Onlus to add years of practical EU experience to its Training for Young Environmental Leaders programme. The programme provides advanced training in organisational development, project management and environmental topics in a stimulating international atmosphere. Each training session consists of three weeks of theoretical training focused on organisation and project management, and a one-week study tour in Italy. The theoretical training takes place in a multicultural setting at the REC's head office in Szentendre, Hungary, while the study tour focuses on the latest environmental methods in dealing with issues such as preserving protected areas, sustainable agriculture, water resources, waste management and energy efficiency.

Eligibility and funding: The REC invites young environmentalists from different backgrounds throughout Central and Eastern Europe to apply for the programme. Applicants should be between 20 and 30 years old, display a strong commitment to the environment in the CEE region, work at an environmental NGO, possess citizenship from one of the participating countries, and speak and write English well.
For the 2005 and 2006 sessions, the REC invites participants from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, FYR Macedonia, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia and Montenegro and Turkey. The REC will cover all costs related to travel, food, training fees and accommodation for participants from the countries listed above.

Selection process: All applications are screened by the REC to identify potential participants. Brief telephone interviews are conducted with selected participants for the final selection. Chosen participants are informed no later than three weeks after the interview.

2.4 Training of Trainers "Education for Diversity and Social Cohesion", 30 September - 9 October 2005, Oradea, Romania

The Training Course "Education for diversity and social cohesion - methods and techniques used in youth work", dedicated to starting trainers and youth workers that are carrying out intercultural youth activities and are in a position to act as "multipliers" for a socio-educational philosophy based on participation, pluralist democracy, intercultural learning and human rights as a basis for an open and just European society for all.

Aims & Objectives:

To train trainers and youth workers on the main educational issues in relation to designing, running, evaluating and the follow-up of intercultural educational youth activities in general.
The general objective of the project is to deepen participants' understanding and to develop educational materials for social and diversity cohesion.
The first part (5 days) of the training course will give participants the opportunity to learn, experience, and reflect upon elements in designing, running, evaluating an intercultural youth activity, to compare their approaches to learning, facilitation and leadership, non-formal education and international youth work.
The second part (5 days) is designed as an open floor for the participants to design and to run workshops using what they have learned so far in a safe enviroment and to get feedback on their approach.

What you will learn:

Module 1 - Introduction to training: where do trainers begin, what does trainers do, training versus education, Instructional Design, What makes a good training
Module 2 - Learning Theories: Accelerated Learning, Participant Learning styles, Trainers Learning Styles, Creating Oportunities to Learning

Who Can Attend?

Voluntary or employed staff of non-governmental youth organisations, youth authorities and other youth networks who are conducting educational youth activities for young people
Be committed to attend for the full duration of the course.
Be aged between 18 and 30 years old.
Competently able to work in English language.
Resident of one of the Council of Europe Countries
Financial conditions: Board and lodging are provided and paid by Life Foundation. They will reimburse up to 250 Euro from the travel costs but not more than 70%. There is no participation fee.

2.5 II International Student Theatre Art Festival "TEATRALNY KOUFAR - 2005", 26 September - 2 October 2005, Minsk, Belarus

Target group: Project managers, Young people, Youth leaders, Youth workers, students of higher educational establishments and representatives of youth and public organisations from all YOUTH programme countries, all Mediterranean partner countries (Euro-Med), all Commonwealth of Independant States (CIS), all South East Europe, all Latin America, all others.

Goals & Objectives of the festival:

To support the international youth festivals' movement as well as to popularise student amateur theatre art;
To introduce students to various activity forms in the realm of theatre art; to give a field for young persons' creative self-actualisation, spiritual and cultural intercourse;
To preserve and develop best Belarusian and world theatre traditions, to propagandise classical theatre heritage.
To establish artistic relations, contacts among student theatre groups of Belarus, countries of CIS, Europe and America;
To display best artistic achievements in international student theatre movement;
To mutually enrich and interchange with theatrical, aesthetic ideas in the sphere of student theatre art production, acting technique, scenography.
Costs: Registration fee is 10 EUR, travel expenses and meals should be covered by the participating group. Expenses for accommodation, cultural and entertaining programme, local transportation during the Festival will be covered by the receiving party.

2.6 International Work Camp for the Rehabilitation of Water Supply, 15-30 July 2005, Ibe, Albania

The aim of the work camp is to provide clean drinking water to the inhabitants of the village of Ibe and to promote volunteering and cross-cultural activities.

Target group: Project managers, Trainers, Young people, Youth leaders, Youth workers from EU member states, EFTA countries/EEA member states, pre-accession countries, all Mediterranean partner countries (Euro-Med), all Commonwealth of Independant States (CIS), all South East Europe, all Latin America, all others.

The international work camp will bring together 10 to 14 youngsters aged 17 and from all European countries. The participants of the work camp will be involved in one-day orientation through which they will learn about the country of Albania and about Albanian culture and language. The participants of the work camp will be involved in working 4 to 5 hours daily and will have to do some cooking, washing, and cleaning as well. The participants of the work camp will be accommodated in tents near to one house in the village in order to meet the basic needs of the participants.

Costs: The organiser will cover the costs of the accommodation, food, programme, local transport, and on-arrival orientation training. The participants will have to cover their international travel costs, visa costs, health insurance and contribute a fee of 250 EUR.

2.7 Co2 - "Communicate & Co-operate!" - 9th International Culture Week in Pecs (ICWiP 2005), 22 - 31 July 2005, Hungary

ICWiP - an annual thematic youth and student festival in Hungary - is one of the most important and popular thematic youth and student cultural festivals of Central and Eastern Europe and the Alps Adriatic region. The festival is organised in the region of South-Transdanubia (Hungary), in Pecs - the town of world heritage, culture, art, and science. For a few years now, every year around 250 students from 20 different countries have come to spend their time together at the end of July.

The motto of ICWiP 2005 is "Communicate & Co-operate":

"Communicate!" - hearing and listening - intercultural dialogue
"Co-operate!" - enhancing possibilities for co-operation
An Intercultural NGO Fair will be held as well as workshops, debates, and training on a variety of themes.

The themes of the ICWiP 2005 are:

Youth culture and democratic participation
Communication, IT and globalisation: promoting democracy?
Multi-level youth co-operation - East-West and North-South dimensions
Higher education, mobility and "the student of the 21st century"
Sustainability and the future of the planet
Intercultural meta-communication and the arts
Who can participate?
The festival is intended for youth all around the world. The main target group are students in the institutes of higher education and young volunteers of non-governmental organisations (NGOs). There is no age limit, but the participants have been mainly of age of 18 to 30. Any young person, who feels interested in the festival, may apply. Basic knowledge of English is required.

Costs: The participants will have to pay a participation fee of 100 EUR or 135 $, which covers full accommodation and board (two meals/day), local transport costs and admission to all the programmes of ICWiP. The participants will have to organise their travel themselves. Unfortunately, the organisers cannot offer travel support.

Organisers: The festival is organised by the non-profit youth organisation called SIEN Foundation and its partners. SIEN is a member of the international SOrCe Network. Since September 2004 SIEN Foundation has been operating from the International House of Pecs, where other non-profit organisations and municipality offices can also be found.

The programme consists of the following parts:

4 days seminar in Beli-Fantanele (Romania).
3 days of expert meetings and discussions in Cluj-Napoca (Romania).
4 days seminar in Studenica (Serbia & Montenegro).
3 days in Belgrade: meetings, discussions, evaluation. (Serbia & Montenegro)
Participating countries: Bosnia & Herzegovina (3+1 participants), Bulgaria (3+1 participants), Germany (3+1 participants), Macedonia (3+1 participants), Romania (3+2 participants) Portugal (3+1 participants), Serbia & Montenegro (3+2 participants) Greece (3+1 participants).

Participation fee: Bosnia & Herzegovina - 75 Euro, Bulgaria - 100 Euro, Germany - 200 Euro, Macedonia - 75 Euro, Romania - 50 Euro, Portugal - 200 Euro, Serbia & Montenegro - 50 Euro, Greece - 200 Euro. The participation fee for the teamers is 15% less than the above fee. The fee covers the following expenses: accommodation, insurance, travelling, trips, conference rooms, material, lectures, catering. Participants are responsible for their private expenses.

Participants must:

be no older than 25 years
be willing to prepare and present a paper
actively participate in the project activities
prepare an experience letter at the end of the program
be involved in the whole project
be able to communicate in English
The participants will be chosen on the basis of a CV, a motivation letter and one-page essay on the main topic of the seminar by the country team leaders.

Working meeting: All the above information will be discussed in details at the advanced working meeting envisioned in July 9-12, 2005, in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The costs (travel, visa, meal, accommodation) for this meeting will be covered by Asociatia Bosporus Romania and Bosporus Group Belgrade. The flights will be booked by them. The travel expenses (bus, train) will be reimbursed.
