SSDID

Student Society for Development of Interethnic Dialogue (SSDID) is a non-governmental non-political organization
of the Roma students, undergraduates, and graduates in Bulgaria.
Our efforts are directed not only towards
promotion of educational values, but also towards providing
information about opportunities for further career
development. The activities of the organization come
straight from and are implemented by the Roma
under/graduates themselves. Our aim is to form a society of
Roma under/graduates, who help their community through
their own development and expertise.

On January 13, 2001 the SSDID initiated the First National Conference for Roma Under/graduates in Bulgaria, which took place in Sofia. Over 40 undergraduates, representatives of various Roma groups, universities and regions in Bulgaria, participated in the conference and became part of the Student Society for Development of the Interethnic Dialogue. Participants of the meeting were forty students from all universities and regions in Bulgaria majoring in Law, Public Administration, Management, Economics, Ecology, Engineer, Film Production, Finance, English Philology, Bulgarian Philology, International Relations, Classical Music, Philosophy, Information Technologies, Physics, Social Activities, Art History, Political Sciences, Culture, Pedagogy, Psychology, Journalism, Social Work, Computer Sciences, Psychology, Tourism, Medicine, Pedagogy, Balkan History, Fine Arts.

The Roma students represented also various Roma communities, including Kalaidjii, Drandari, Kalderashi, Tsutsumani, Musicians.
In order to be useful for the Roma community the
under/graduates decided to divide into the following
groups: education, economics, law, advocacy work, media and
public relations, and arts and culture.

Student Society for Development of Interethnic Dialogue provides social, academic, and paraprofessional support to its members. Open to all students, SSDID fosters cross-cultural friendships and dialogue. SSDID coordinates an annual symposium and workshops that address the experiences of people of color in the workplace, They maintain corporate and alumni contacts to aid in members' professional development.
